Top tips for the retail industry

The Norwegian Health Directorate´s advice to the retail industry.

Will it be necessary to reduce product selection in order to limit infection?

There is no need to limit products for sale in any kind of store, including grocery stores. As of the 17th March there is no indication that the corona virus can be caught through food or water. The retail industry should follow the hygiene advice given by the Health Directorate.

Will there be a need for further preventative measures to limit infection in shops?

The Corona virus is mainly spread from person to person through respiratory droplets when someone coughs or sneezes, and through physical contact like handshaking if someone´s hands are contaminated. 

The Health authority recommends avoiding close contact when queueing

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority recommends canteens, grocery stores and any food service operator to regularly clean and disinfect areas of contact such a door handles, trays and cutlery.  

 

What can we do to protect our shop staff and keep them safe?

The hygiene guidelines apply to shop staff. Maintaining at least one metre (three feet) between people. This also includes limiting social contact with others when possible, including sports and visits to restaurants.

When possible, payment should be by card, Vipps, Coopay and other digital solutions. Avoid cash payments.

 

What should we do if we have a confirmed case of infection amongst staff?

Any confirmed cases abide by the quarantine/isolation rules (stated below). Will apply to employee as well as other employees exposed to infection. In very rare cases exception might be given if shop is for example only grocery shop in district and no other staff can be brought in.

Advice to customers
All customers are advised to follow hygiene guidelines, keeping at least 1 metre distance from other customers and staff. As of the 17th March no other infection control procedures are necessary. Customers do not need to use disposable gloves or facemasks.  We advise customers not to stockpile and only shop what they need, and to pay by card.
