Kari Nessa Nordtun, Mayor of Stavanger, has provided ekstra money to the "summer holiday activities" budget.

30 million kroner set aside to give children a nice summer holiday in Stavanger

– We don´t want Covid-19 robbing our children of their holiday memories. Our children deserve a great summer holiday! The municipality has put aside 30 million just for this purpose, says Mayor of Stavanger Kari Nessa Nordtun (AP).

EXTRACT FROM THE PRESS RELEASE ON MONDAY 20TH APRIL:


THE POLITICAL MAJORITY HAS DECIDED TO ADD ANOTHER 30 MILLION KRONER TO THE BUDGET USED TO FUND ORGANISATIONS, SPORTING CLUBS AND OTHERS PROVIDING CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES. THE EXTRA FUNDING MEANS ORGANISATIONS WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE MORE ACTIVITIES THAN USUAL DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.


– OUR CHILDREN HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE CORONA VIRUS IN A BIG WAY. NOT ONLY DUE TO SCHOOLS CLOSING, BUT THROUGH OUT OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES DISAPPEARING AS WELL. THEREFORE, THE MUNICIPALITY HAS DECIDED THAT THIS SUMMER CHILDREN WILL BE PROVIDED WITH MORE ACTIVITIES THAN EVER BEFORE. WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT BEING THE BEST CITY FOR FAMILIES TO LIVE IN, SAYS NORDTUN, IN THE PRESS RELEASE. 


SHE PERSONALLY TOOK THE INITIATIVE TO ADD ANOTHER 30 MILLION KRONER TO THE BUDGET, AND IMMEDIATELY GAINED SUPPORT FROM THE OTHER POLITICAL PARTIES, FORMING THE MAJORITY IN STAVANGER. THE MUNICIPALITY WILL PROVIDE THE FUNDS, WHILE THE ORGANISATIONS PROVIDE THE CONTENT.


STAVANGER-HOLIDAY
THERE WILL BE NO COST INVOLVED FOR CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN THESE ACTIVITIES. THIS IS IN LINE WITH THE MAJORITY PARTY POLICY. THE ORGANISATIONS PROVIDING THE ACTIVITIES WILL HAVE SALARY EXPENSES AS WELL AS ANY OTHER EXPENSES FOR EQUIPMENT ETC PAID FOR THROUGH THE 30 MILLION FUNDING.


CONSEQUENTLY, ORGANISATIONS UNABLE TO CLAIM COMPENSATION FROM THE RELIEF PACKAGES OFFERED BY THE GOVERNMENT, WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP INSTRUCTORS, EDUCATORS AND OTHER STAFF, ACCORDING TO THE PRESS RELEASE.


– THIS YEAR LOTS OF CHILDREN WILL BE HOLIDAYING LOCALLY, AND THROUGH THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDING OUTDOOR AND INDOOR ACTIVITIES, CHILDREN WILL EXPERIENCE THE BEST STAVANGER HAS TO OFFER. COVID-19 WILL NOT ROB OUR CHILDREN OF THEIR HOLIDAY MEMORIES. OUR CHILDREN DESERVE A GREAT HOLIDAY,  SHE SAYS.
