Ocean Wind?
Esbjerg has become the renewable centre for ocean wind. Billions of kroner, the equivalent to Norway’s oil fund, can potentially be invested in infrastructure in the belief that ocean wind will be the main source of energy in Europe.
The Norwegian government is sitting on the fence, gazing over turbine free waters, whilst Equinor have far higher expectations to wind power. The company is looking at investing 75 billion kroner over the next four years – most of it abroad. International Energy Agency (IEA) rapports indicate that wind power has the potential to cover 30% of Europe’s energy consumption by 2050, but only if there is rapid deployment and development in the North Sea region.
