A different May 17th celebration

07.May 2020 Elianne Strøm Topstad

This year's May 17th celebration will certainly be different!

Due to the Corona-virus all ordinary national day celebrations have been canceled. This means no parades or public events. However, everyone is encouraged to make it a special day.

Fortunately some of our proud national day traditions are carried on in alternative ways. Stavanger municipality is working on a technical solution and their hope is to bring the May 17th atmosphere directly into your living room from Stavanger Concert Hall (check your municipality for information about May 17th celebration).

At 1pm people throughout Norway will be singing the national anthem, ´Ja vi elsker´ - from backyards, living rooms and balconies. This will surely be a memorable occasion.

Put on your Sunday best, decorate your house with flags and flowers, eat lots ice cream and have a wonderful day.
