Visit Utstein Monastery and the Monastery farm

Please join us for this unique opportunity to visit the Monastery Farm with host Mrs Inger Lise Aarrestad.  This could become your favorite place to bring visitors and friends.

Klostergarden is the brand name of Utstein Farm, located around Utstein Kloster, Norway’s only preserved medieval monastery. Utstein Monastery is mentioned in historical records going back to the 9’th century, when it was cited as King Harald Fairhair´s garrison after the Battle of Hafrsfjord where Norway was unified under one monarch. The area is a national protected cultural environment. The family farm is now run by Inger Lise and Anders Schanche Rettedal, as the 11’th generation farmers.

It is on these historic premises that they produce what very well could be the most tender and tasteful lambs in Norway. They have also attained a Norwegian Speciality Distinction for lambs from Klostergarden and by 45 other farmers under their brand name. Utstein Farm also produce Limousin beef cattle and pigs, including some free-range pigs. They have a farm outlet in a sea house just below the premises of  Utstein Monastery.
