She who Rules the Waves

To outsiders, Anne Lise Ådnøy can come across as quiet and reserved. But even the appearance of a newly-appointed Bishop can be deceptive, and goodness knows that Anne Lise Ådnøy has not chosen the path of least resistance.

She too has met her fair share of challenges along the way, as alluded to in lower ecclesiastical circles. Not in the sense as when our Creator challenged Job, but more in the form of everyday attitudes from sceptics who have found themselves unable to accept either female members of the clergy or the opinion that all human beings are of equal value, with equal rights – also in God’s House.

Anne Lise Ådnøy also has certain paradoxes to contend with. One of these is the fact that she is not particularly fond of receiving much attention. This means that her ceremonial appointment as Bishop, attended by the King as Guest of Honour, and covered by NRK, was an event which she was both dreading and looking forward to in equal measure.
